Our Montessori Primary Program

This program is for children 2 ½ to 7. It is a mixed age group with all of the children attending the Half Day (morning session) from 9:00 – 12:00, Monday through Thursday. The older children stay for Full Day until 3:00 (for third-year students). However, there is childcare available for younger children who are not eligible for the Full Day Montessori Primary Program.

In this mixed age setting, children learn from each other, and they learn because of each other. The Montessori Primary program takes place in what we call a “prepared environment” which not only facilitates independent learning, but also exploration. In the classroom, children work at a wide variety of activities from washing a table to long division – hands on. You can read more about our classroom on our home page, but better yet, come in and see it in action. It’s the best way to see how Montessori works.

Volunteer Hours: 20 hrs/yr/family
We want every family to be aware of what is involved when they enroll their child in our school. Besides tuition and annual registration fees, each family is required to do 20 hours of volunteer work each year for the school. They may opt to pay $300 in exchange for those hours or $15 per hour for the balance of hours not completed. However, we strongly encourage our families to fulfill their commitment by direct involvement -- parent meetings, fundraisers, year-round jobs and parent projects for the classroom. There are obvious benefits for the school, and building school community, but their child reaps the biggest benefit of all. Each year we also do at least one fundraiser to augment our program wherever the greatest need exists.
